Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)
The State of Texas has a financial aid application for students who are not United States citizens, but who are Texas residents. This application is called the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). Texas residents who are not U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or eligible non-citizens may not receive federal aid but could qualify for state and institutional aid. Our office reviews applicants for these funds by looking at the information from their TASFA.
To fill out this application, the student must meet one of the following criteria:
- Graduate from a public or private high school, or receive a high school equivalency, in Texas; and
- Reside in Texas for at least three years (36 months) leading up to high school graduation or receiving a high school equivalency; and
- Reside in Texas for 12 consecutive months right before the semester the student enrolls in college; and
- Provide the institution with a notarized affidavit stating that the student will submit an application to become a U.S. permanent resident as soon as they are eligible to do so; and
- Demonstrate you are lawfully present in the United States
- The student or the student's parent/legal guardian must hold a visa or other immigration status that allows the student to establish and maintain domicile for tuition purposes.
